Gold Team Cruise to 5-0 Win Over Sting Black

The Gold Team put on a shooting clinic against ADASL opponents, Sting Black, this afternoon with a 5-0 win. The scorching heat seemed no issue to the team as they put on a commanding performance.

Robert Pierrard opened the scoring in the first half with a superb first time finish off of Seth Daly’s cross. Daly did excellent to drive down the right flank and deliver an inch-perfect cross for Pierrard to strike on his first touch. The power of the strike left the goalkeeper no chance (1-0).

Shortly after, Jonathan Leo found the back of the net with a tidy near post finish after Jordan Richardson delivered a nicely-weighted pass into Leo's stride. After collecting Richardson's pass, Leo's touches inside the box were crafty and incisive as he doubled the Gold Team's lead in good fashion (2-0).

Early in the second half, freshman, Alex Varghese, started, and finished, a wonderful passing move towards goal. Skillfully bouncing the ball from teammate to teammate, Varghese found himself inside the box where he placed nicely into the bottom left corner for the third (3-0).

Later on, winger, Jordan Richardson, checked inside to receive Jonathan Leo's chipped pass. After quickly turning with the ball, Richardson skillfully stepped past two defenders and launched his shot to the top left corner for the fourth goal on the day (4-0).

Finally, late in the second half, Matthew Bishop put the opposing defense under pressure, causing the opposition to cough up the ball near their own 18-yard box. Bishop did a fantastic job of beating the defenders to the loose ball, and an even better job placing into the back of the net to finish the game off at five goals to none (5-0).

While the Gold Team certainly spent the majority of the game attacking the opposing net, the whole team, back line especially, neutralized Sting Black's attacking moves to secure the clean sheet. Brice Diomande, Sam Westacott, Seth Daly, Alex Varghese, and Bradley Streit were rock solid at the back for the full 90 minutes.

The Gold Team will look to continue their scoring form against AFC Clayton next Sunday as they pursue another win in the ADASL.
